Sizzlin' Salsa Nights!
Welcome everyone to a new year of UQ Dance!
Market day was a big success with 400+ members to start the year off. If you have any friends who would like to sign up, remember that they can sign-up on any Wednesday night. Thanks to everyone that dropped by and had a dance, we had an awesome day!
This Wednesday Night is our first workshop for the year. JC and Shani (ie. Our Vice-Pres. And Pres.) will be teaching you the basics of Salsa, with a brief Merengue warm-up. Be sure to be there @ 6.30pm, outside the Student Union Building (head to the main refec. And listen out for the music). If you have any friends who want to come along, make sure they come along early so they too can sign-up. We will be set-up and playing music (the music may or may not be accompanied by some dancing) from 5.30pm.
Salsa is the staple diet for most UQ Dancers. To really get your head around it, we suggest that you do the basic steps as often as you can. I would do the steps behind the counter at work, or whilst cooking in the kitchen. Every Friday night, you can also head to Little Stanley Street in South Bank, or Brisbane Square in the city for some free on-the-street latin dancing. If you dance every chance you get, it doesn’t take long to bust out the moves.
We have our first picnic for the year coming up on the Saturday of Week 3 (March 20th), so keep that date free in your diaries. We will head down to New Farm Park with more than enough food, for some fun, frivolities, and maybe some dancing.
I think the biggest thank-you from Market Day goes to Andrew Russell however for his work on the UQ Dance Membership Database and Sign-up. He put a lot of work into it, and it was such a resource to us on market day, and will prove to be an absolute asset for a number of years to come. He has also put together a program that will mail out everyone their membership receipts. The UQ Union requires accurate database and receipting, and with the number of members we will have by the end of the year, that can be difficult and time consuming with paper sign-ups. Andrew has managed to stream line this process so that we can all get on with the more important aspect of UQ Dance (Hint: its in the name, but not the UQ).
UQ Dance is on Facebook! Sign-up to our group as a lot more dancing events will be posted on our group site, and we will send out invites for all club activities!
