Hope we all had a relaxing/productive mid-semester break

If you came to the last two weeks of dance (but not during the mid-sem break because no one was there), you would have learned the basics moves for the slow and sexy Zouk.

Well now we have brought in the big guns, a qualified instructor from Latin Energy. They will be teaching some more advanced movies so that you can get funky/smooth on the dance floor!

So make sure you are all there on Wednesday at 6:30pm, it is going to be amazing

This week is going to be the kickoff for the first movie night of the semester! (yay)

It was originally planed for Friday night (Good Friday) but given the obvious problems with that (the uni is closed, people are busy etc etc) it is now going to be held on:

THURSDAY THE 5TH OF APRIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Details: It is going to be held in the SLC (Science Learning Centre – green room on level 2 of building 67)

Time: start time is 6pm and we will be kicked out of the SLC at 9pm. This usually turns into a kick on to somewhere (usually decided by the people who turn up and what people feel like doing)

What to bring: an assortment of fun things to eat (we will be ordering a few pizzas but don’t rely on that – given some people’s (you know who you are) capacity to consume entire pizzas single-handedly.
- comfy clothes
- any dance movies you own that you want to watch (it will be put to a vote at 6pm).

This Saturday (St Patrick’s Day) will be the momentus, epicness which is our UQ DANCE picnic.

Keeping with tradition, it will be held at New Farm Park from noon till 5pm. The unofficial rumours around the water cooler say that the picnic will kick-on to somewhere in the valley for some St Paddy’s fun but you didn’t hear it from me

Details:

Getting there: you can catch a bus to the valley (I think its the 199) and walk from the shops down to the park or you can get on a ferry and disembark at New Farm Park.

We are usually set up near the ferry terminal with a huge banner and loud music so it shouldn’t be hard to find us.

Rules: bring something (ie food or drink) to share with the group. Be prepared to dance and make a fool of yourself in public…just don’t fall in the river

You’re havin’-a-little-break Exec

Bachata is a very popular partner dance all over the world, with roots in the Dominican Republic. And luckily for us it’s easy to pick up! So if you’re ready to stow the jitterbuggin’ and get your Latin back on, join us this Wednesday night at the usual time (6:30pm) and same place for an exciting lesson in Bachata.

But now UQ Dance must make a very important announcement. There is a new strain of virus going around Campus, and it’s called ‘BEING LAME’! What? We’re serious!

Common symptoms of ‘being lame’:

• Skipping UQ Dance on Wednesdays to get an early night’s sleep
• Trading toe-tapping with bar-hopping (we know moderation is the key to both)
• Uttering the words, “Dancing is lame.” Dancing is the complete opposite of being lame – it’s what you should be doing every Wednesday night!

The cunning folk among us will realise there is only one cure – going to UQ Dance this week!

So pop some Vitamin C and iron your favourite shirt:
